OUR LOCATION

We are located 2 hours from Richmond, 1 1/2 hours from Washington, D.C., approximately 2 hours from Maryland and 1 1/2 hours from Northern Virginia. No matter where you live, we like to think the quality of our puppies is well worth the distance for a new member of the family that will be with you for hopefully 15 years or more!

We deliver to Maryland, DC, West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware and areas throughout Virginia. We will also meet you at Dulles Airport. See our Delivery page for more information.

AKC REGISTERED AND CHAMPION LINEAGE

Our Goldendoodles and Cockapoos are selectively bred from only AKC and UKC Sires and Dams with excellent temperaments and conformation. Our Goldendoodle Moms are European English Cream Golden Retrievers bred directly from Champions or have recent Champions in their bloodlines. We are committed to raising healthy, happy and absolutely adorable puppies.

We are purposefully small so that our parent dogs can be raised as part of our family on our 10 acre farm. We like to have as much quality time as possible with each and every litter and that requires a great deal of time. Our puppies live with us in the house until they are 5 weeks old. At that time, they are transferred to the Puppy House.

GOOD FAMILY PETS – EASY TO TRAIN

Both the Goldendoodle and the Cockapoo are highly intelligent, which makes them easily trainable and wonderful with children. They are generally very outgoing, friendly and loyal companions. Both are great as family pets, service and therapy dogs.

LOW SHEDDING

In general both Goldendoodles and Cockapoos are low to non-shedding with very little to no dander. People with moderate to severe allergies are recommended to consider an F1B generation Goldendoodle, as the 75% Poodle ratio is more consistent with non-shedding.

COLORS OF COCKAPOOS AND GOLDENDOODLES

Because of the variety of colors found in both the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle, Cockapoos come in just about every color. They are Cream, Buff, Apricot, Red, Sable, Chocolate, Black, Black and Tan, Black with White Markings and every Parti Combination.

Goldendoodles are generally light Golden to Honey in color but can also be cream, apricot, red, chocolate, and black. The F1B Goldendoodles may have parti combinations. Teddy Bear F1 Goldendoodles are generally lighter in color but there can be some variety in a litter from the Sire’s side of the family. F1b Goldendoodles come in a larger variety of colors.

GROOMING

As a hybrid cross, Goldendoodles and Cockapoos tend to have a way coat. Something in between the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel or Golden Retriever. Some families prefer to have a puppy with a longer coat that would require brushing more frequently. Some families prefer a shorter coat. Brushing your puppy weekly is recommend. More information pertaining to grooming can be found on our Puppy Care page.

EXERCISE REQUIREMENTS

Whether you live in an apartment or have a large yard, both breeds are happy in either. Cockapoos and Goldendoodles are very easy going and lovable dogs. They would adapt to most living conditions as long as they are given moderate daily exercise. A Standard Goldendoodle will require slightly more exercise than a Mini Goldendoodle or a Cockapoo. Ball playing and walks are fun for both you and your dog, and most Goldendoodles will play fetch seemingly never-ending, if someone is willing to throw the ball for them!

MALE OR FEMALE?

The decision of whether to get a male or female is of course entirely up to you. There’s not a big difference between males and females. Males tend to be a bit larger, a bit more affectionate, and may be playful longer. Females are a bit more independent and slightly smaller. Contrary to popular belief, females “hump” more than males do! Neutered males generally do not have stud-like behaviors.

OTHER PETS IN THE HOME

Puppies adapt to their new families and playmates well – even if they are cats! If you were introducing an adult, that would be another story entirely.

GENERATIONS 101

The first generation (F1) cross is the product of breeding two Purebred breeds. A Standard Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever for a Goldendoodle, a Cocker Spaniel crossed with a Poodle for a Cockapoo. Most first generation Goldendoodles and Cockapoos either don’t shed or shed lightly, and are compatible for most families with allergies.

The backcross (F1B) Goldendoodle is produced by crossing an F1 Goldendoodle with a Poodle. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding, and are recommended for families with moderate to severe allergies.

HYBRID VIGOR

Goldendoodle and Cockapoo Puppies that are a first generation cross are said to exhibit hybrid vigor. This refers to the breeding of two unrelated purebred lines to produce puppies that have little or no chance of inbreeding, thus cancelling out any recessive genetic defects of either line. In general, these hybrid puppies are healthier puppies than either parent line and have an average life expectancy of 3 years longer than that of their parent breeds. The higher the generation (F1B, F2, etc.,) the less hybrid vigor.

Our Parent dogs are selected by us based on their pedigree and from mostly show breeders who also carefully select their breeding stock for health, temperament and correctness. With any cross-breed (including the Goldendoodle and Cockapoo), you have the benefit of a more diverse gene pool which greatly reduces the chance that your dog will suffer from a recessive illness.

We stand behind the health of our puppies with a 3-year Health Guarantee

HYBRIDS VERSUS MUTTS

A “mutt” is a term (whether used affectionately or disparagingly) referring to a dog of mixed-breed heritage where the contributing breeds are unknown (or guessed at based on certain physical traits). Until the dog is grown, it remains unknown what size, look, or personality traits it has inherited.

A “hybrid” is the intentional crossing of two purebred dogs. Goldendoodles and Cockapoos are examples of hybrids. Our parent dogs are purebreds. Their puppies are hybrids derived from the intentional mating of their purebred parents. Hybrids may not be registered with AKC.

All breeds known today have been developed over the years by cross-breeding dogs to develop the breed. It’s nothing new. This is not to imply that there is anything wrong with a mutt. We’ve had mutts as part of our family over the years and they have been wonderful family pets!
