Hybrids are the intentional, planned breeding of two purebred lines, in this case the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle. Because you are crossing two different breeds that have virtually no chance of inbreeding, the puppies are thought to have better genetics and have a higher fitness level, commonly referred to as hybrid vigor, than puppies from either of the original breeds.
WHY COCKAPOOS?
Cockapoos are the result of breeding an American Cocker Spaniel to a Poodle. Cockapoos have been bred in the United States for over 60 years and are also very popular in Australia and Sweden.
The Poodle and Cocker Spaniel are both listed in the top 10% by the AKC as two of the most popular breeds. Cockapoos are a wonderful combination of the two! They are wonderful family pets, and are also a popular choice for Service and Therapy dogs. The reason Cockapoos have become so popular is because they generally combine the outgoing, loving personality of the Cocker Spaniel with the low-shedding, low-dander qualities of the Poodle. The Poodle parent also contributes intelligence and a tendency to be very active, resulting in a loving, intelligent, energetic and agile dog that sheds very little or not at all.
ABOUT OUR COCKAPOOS
Our Cockapoos are bred for health, beauty, temperament and intelligence. We have only AKC registered Sires and Dams as part of our family and breeding program. Our Cockapoos make great family members. Some of our Cockapoo puppies are Service and Therapy dogs which is a testament to their intelligence, loyality and loving nature!
We breed only first generation Cockapoos where the healthier hybrid vigor is at its maximum. Our puppies are generally low to non shedding, hypoallergenic with soft, curling coats and above average intelligence. They are playful and easily trainable, and the healthier hybrid vigor allows them to live an average of 3 years longer than their purebred parent breeds.
